Vintage Junk Journal

 Picture heavy post!!

I made this vintage junk journal for a swap I was hosting. My partner asked for a journal using an old book. It isn't real "junky" but I loved how it came out. It was the first time I've made one using a book and found it a bit challenging.

I removed all the pages from the book and made my own signatures. Never done this before and I am new at sewing. I hand sewed the signatures into the spine to make the book. I cut a square out on the cover to place a vintage image in. Used old ticket stubs for tabs. Tried out tea dying for the first time! I tea dyed some of the papers and lace! I used lots of tissue tape and I used decorative border punches on the edges of several papers.

Altered Light Switch Plate

I was recently in a swap for altered switch plates and a key. My partner said she preferred that it be more decorative than functional and that it be gray with hints of yellow, so this is what I came up with.

I first covered the switch plate with tissue paper to give it texture. Then glued down gears that I cut with my cameo out of paper. Next, I painted it gray and took embossing powder over the gears and heated it. I added little hints of yellow by using embossing powder as well. I added an eye peeking out, with wings as the main focal point. Little metal gears were added where the screws normally would go. I cut out the word "curiosity" from a scrap piece of G45 Old Curiosity Shoppe paper.

And here is an altered key I made. Found the key really challenging and decided keys are not my thing..
I added a button with a gear I made with a mold and the melting pot. Wrapped wire with beads around the key.

My first ATC!

I recently was in a triple number swap for artist trading cards (ATC)  My numbers came up with Childhood for the theme, Girly for style, and the colors I could use were shades of green and black. We had to make 17 of the same card.

This was the first time I have ever made an ATC and I had never even received one before so I found it quite challenging.

I used a drawing my son made in kindergarten or first grade for my main focal point. I scanned and resized it and then colored it in with shades of green with crayon, added black photo corners to it. The childhood quote I found online. Added butterflies that I glitter glued green  and at the bottom I used Martha Stewart lace border punch in hopes to make it more girly.

Altered Paint Brush

Steampunk Altered Paint Brush

This was made for a swap I was in for April. I like how it came out, and hope it inspires you to alter a paint brush as well!

I used metal tape. I embossed it using Tim Holtz embossing folder and then cut the tape into pieces. I stuck the tape on my gessoed paint brush. Added some black paint and rubbed off. Added gold alcohol ink, to give it the gold look. The man is part of a Tim Holtz stamp that I cut apart after stamping onto cardstock. His wings are from grungeboard die cuts that had been painted with the same paint I painted the bristles of the brush. It's a metallic glaze called Dazzling Metallics in Medieval Gold made by DecoArt. I printed out the quote on cardstock and added inking and gold rub n buff around the edges. Decorated the brush using gears.

Ready to Pop! Baby Shower

I'm way late on blogging about a baby shower I helped out with.
It was actually almost a year ago. How bad is that!? But, I still wanted it on my blog..

Our theme was
"Ready to Pop"

We made our decorations using - A Jillian Vance Design -  Baby Bump Stamp Set!!

These popcorn topiaries were made for table centerpieces!
They are my favorite thing about the party!
We found the popcorn bowls at the dollar store for .50 cents a piece.

We stamped onto these bags we found at the party store.
They were filled with popcorn for the guests at the shower!

Those bowls were also used for other things that "pop"!
Made our own little diapers filled with goodies!

We used the Oh Baby! stamp to make cupcake toppers!

Our Ready To Pop banner!

An overview of the the tables showing the popcorn topiaries!

At the shower, we played games that went with the "pop" theme. Also, everyone filled out a Baby wishes card to serve as a keepsake for the mommy to be! Sorry, I do not have a picture of the invitation. We used the stamp set for it as well.

Thanks for looking!!

Altered Fork

I was recently in an altered silverware swap. I decided to go with a fork. I love assemblage art but have never done anything like that so that's where my idea kinda came from. I think it came out pretty cool.

I used the bottom of an Altoids tin and cut slits in it for the fork and wings to go through. The wings are made from an old cheese it box that I covered with metal tape and embossed and die cut with Tim Holtz wings die. I used lots of paint and different techniques on the tin and the fork. I just play around till I get a look I want.

Not really any rhyme or reason to it. I wrapped wire around the fork. The heart, I die cut from cardboard and dipped it into my melting pot, then used a texture tread on it. On the back I put a picture frame hanger on it so she can hang it up. I love how it came out and kinda wish I had kept it. My partner loved it, so it's all good!

Mixed Media Coaster 9

Okay this is the last of my altered coasters. Another favorite of mine! I painted, stenciled and stamped on the background. The little guy is a digital stamp from The Octopode Factory

And this is the quote I used on the back sides of the coasters. They were painted to kinda match the front so obviously this isn't the back to the one above, but the idea is still the same on each one.

Hope you enjoyed seeing all my coasters!!

Mixed Media Coaster 8

For this coaster I put down some text book paper and then painted my background over top. I used stencils, rub-ons, glitter glue and paper embellishments. I hand drew the flower and painted it. Outlined with charcoal pencil.

Mixed Media Coaster 6

Almost finished with postings of my altered coasters. This one I painted the background. There is some book print under the paint. Hand drew the person from my mind and painted. Added a few rub-ons. It happens to be one of my favorites.
